My dad is going to a gun show and he has promised to keep a eye out for a certain type of skinning knife that I have asked for, I am really hoping that he will be able to find a good one for me, I have not had much luck finding these types of events in my local area. As I do my own self-butchering for my own use only on the farm, having the right tools is always a good leg up.
Funny but true story, there was a really good hunting and fishing section in the big canadian Tire in yellowknife and this very nice lady in her 30’s stopped my bushman looking DH and asked him if he could help her pick out a good Filleting Knife for her dad as a b-day present, and I still remember the look on her face, as he said, hold on, let me get my wife, she will be able to help you pick a good one, as he would say.. know each person’s strengths and work with it.
I know I am showing my redneck roots at being excited about this but it was a highlight of my day today, and I will share a picture of what I got when I find out, and give a review of it after I use it.
Just another Day on the Farm 
Hey, there’s no shame in that! Today I am stupidly excited because I was really brave and asked the lady I get eggs from if I could help with her meat chicken culling day! Apparently she has 150 to do, so some bloke with a mobile unit comes and does the slaughtering, but there’s lots of other stuff to do. Apparently, the bloke is the sort who likes showing people what his unit does, so that should be , er, illuminating.
She also has the layers, obviouslly and has a pig paddock, where she would like to raise pigs, but apparently finding good ones is hard round here. She also, I found out toda,y has cows! I am nuturing a hope that she will prove to be as much fun as she seems and keeps on being as willing to share her knowledge.

Re-read my post and you are right, I did seem to be doing a ummm on annoucing that I am thrilled to be getting a new skinning knife.. I guess because I am aware that for some folks this is a odd thing to here or read but I guess if you have read my little farm blog for any length of time, it does come up, So here is me lifting my head and say.. Ohhh, I am so exciting to get a pretty new knife for my collection.
Good for you for asking and please let me know how your butcher day goes, hear’s hoping that she is open to sharing info and letting you spend some time at the farm.
