Coming 40-What I want for my B-Day

I’m coming 40 this year.. I know, I know, the big 4-0, how did that happen? Now my birthday is not until the fall as some point but I will need to do a little extra work this spring/summer getting ready for it.. I promised myself a weekend horse back riding trip somewhere in Canada.. Still have not figured out where just yet, could be Alberta, could be Sask, could be Quebec? I think its narrowed down to those three provinces at this point.. but maybe B.C. or the yukon is possable.. Still a bit up in the air on if its a weekend or a week trip..

Alot will depend on how much riding I get to do before the trip to be ready for my time out.. Now as my regular’s know, I don’t put up very many photos of myself.. but figure the odds of you being able to spot the “me” now from these photos are slim..

Farmgal at the age of six riding bareback on her first horse-a pony of course, called Trupp, I had to share him with my big brother.

Farmgal at the age of 15 riding one of the big boys, this is King, and he was part of the driving team, again, riding bareback, this time, as you can see, he was not neck trained, but he was a good old boy.. not that he was old either, he was only 4..I hope that my daily workouts with girl will also help get me in shape for this coming trip, Did you ride as child? as a Teen? Did you take lessons? I didn’t, I was taught by the folks and what we did now would be called trail riding, we just called it riding back then 🙂

  1. I never had the priviledge of learning to ride a horse. i grew up in the city. However, I think they are some amazing, beautiful creatures!!! Love and hugs from the ocean shores of CAlifornia, Heather 🙂

  2. Happy upcoming birthday. 🙂 I’ll be 40 in a few months, so I’m just a teeeeeny bit older than you.

I never knew anyone who owned horses when I was growing up. Now I do, but they’re buggy horses and don’t get ridden. So I have to say, I’ve never been on the back of a horse.

You’re both young’uns compared to me- I turned 48 last Sunday!

I used to trail ride a bit when I was younger but I haven’t been on a horse for about 15 years now.

    • Happy Birthday Callie! Looks like most of us are in our 40’s that is interesting! I have to admit that once I moved north, no more riding for me, no horses anymore.. and then when we moved to the farm, well I want a horse but I want one that meets my requirements and sometimes I think I am going to have to buy a ranch horse in alberta and have it hualed out to me.. but I keep looking locally, at some point the right horse for the right price will show up..

Well, I’m in the middle as my 45th is coming up faster than I’d like to admit… have to say my 40s have been the best and I wish you all the best in yours. Happy Bithday Callie!

I did ride as a kid at summer camp. My father loathed horses (I think they are just too big and he likes his feet on the ground). The camp had this horse call Friar Tuck, an old circus horse. There were signs everywhere saying “no music” because when ever he heard it he would stand up on his hind legs and “dance” and some little kid would go flying. Can you imagine the lawsuits now! (snort… giggle) I haven’t bee on a horse in 30 years. I miss it but its a good miss…

  5. Well, I confess, I’m 44 and I feel every day of 60 sometimes. I had a pony as a youngster too, and our family stories of “Sugarfoot” have become family legend I think. I remember trail riding with my Mom, even after we had to sell Sugarfoot and move. Damn floods… anyway, I just wanted to put a plug in for Ontario. Lots of nice country to see here from horseback!

now that sounds like a cool thing! I turn 40 this year too, in summer. I won’t be doing anything so fun as that though! I’ll be lucky to get to bake myself some gluten-free cupcakes… most likely I’ll be picking tomatoes, peppers, and melons for my birthday! 😉

    • Hi Julia

Happy Birthday to you as well..When I was 30, I had my birthday over in Eurupe, for my 35 Birthday, I drove acoss Canada with my momma and I have said for years that I would take a horse riding trip for my 40th, now its just a matter of planning and making it happen!
