Homemade Saskatoon Pie

Is there anyway to feel more like coming home then making fresh Saskatoon Pie?

Here is a good starter Saskatoon Pie filling Recipe

  • 3 1/2 cups Saskatoon Berries
  • 1/2 cup Water
  • 3/4 cup Sugar
  • 3 tbsp Corn Starch
  • 2 tsp Lemon Juice
  • 1 tbsp Butter

Cook berries in water until boiling. Reduce water if using frozen berries. Add mixed cornstarch and sugar and boil until clear, stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Add lemon juice, butter, can be used in pies, in tarts, or on top of cake, cheese cake or on icecream, or on top of waffles or pancakes..

    I had to look up saskatoon berries…never heard of them before….then I realized it’s what we call serviceberries/sarvisberries. They make the most delicious jelly!

    Thanks for that info, I didn’t realize that they had a different name in your country, they do indeed make the best syrup and jelly!, Do you have them at your place?

    Im from Edmonton, Alberta today my son and I enjoyed our river valley trails the longest trail system in North America. We picked 10 cups of Saskatoon berries for pie. In fall we will pick cranberries for jelly.
