Never realized before that Brandy never poo’s at the ties and he does, will need to clean that are up today, cleaned up and used Brandy’s tack as that is what I have on the farm, had to adjust all the draft tack I had got for her to the smallest size but had to redo everything to second last punch holes to make everything bigger to fit Samwell, yes, his name has changed again, mom wants his name to be Samwell, I can see him ending up as Sam.
Yup, I am tired.. went to bed tired, woke up tired.. more mental then anything I think..
So what to do about it.. Well the first thing to do is.. Move!
Stand, move, walk, stretch.. or sleep.. don’t lay down, don’t sit, don’t spend time in the house..
Get outside!
Fresh air, the sounds of the birds, if I could I would go for a ride (but its a work day and no one is home)
the good news is that its a me day on the farm, Dh has gone for a full work day and then he has his writers group meeting and so he won’t be home before bed, which means everything on the farm is set to my beat today..
Now at some point I need to come inside.. sorry but its true, I have inside chores and things that need to be done.. so in that case
Crank the music! tunes to get you moving! and ideally tapping a toe, singing along or even better, just bursting into dance!
Crank open the windows, air out the house, bring on the breeze, throw a pot of cinnamon vinager water on to simmer on the stove for the day, scent the house with fall!
Now on to food, in truth I want nothing, I’m not hungry at all today, but that will not do, but I know me, if I look at carbs on a tired day, its just going to make it worse! nope, today is a veggie and meat day!
Happen to have a awesome big beef steak in the fridge that I can use as my main meat source along with fresh still warm from the chicken laid them eggs for breakfast, the rest of the meal is coming from the gardens, as fresh and full of goodness as I can make it..
Including making myself some fresh tea’s with local honey to sweeten it up..
How do you deal with a tired day in your neck of the woods?
While I am grateful for the harvest, it not just the food that is so excited, but the promise of new life for next year..
First night on the farm has gone well, and he is currently at the big hay feeder with his pasture pal Brandy..
Well dear readers, I am pleased to introduce Prince, who should be arriving at the farm in the next little while, he is only on a stop-over, for a little extra training/refresher course, he could be with us for a month or he could be with us till spring.. only time will give that answer..
He is going to have the grand adventure of spending time with us here on the farm before he heads out West to be join my folks.. he is a big old boy, broke to ride, broke to single and double drive, he is a gentle giant.
Big enough to pack my daddy in the hills, and haul my momma behind a cart or a pile of grandbabies up there..
Brandy will enjoy the company, I will enjoy Dh having a riding horse and the challenge of working with another horse is never a bad thing 🙂 We will get a much more solid answer on if Dh will ride enough to make a second horse a good idea or not..
Yup, I was thrilled yesterday to see four kinds of bee’s in the garden yesterday, but only a certain kind was willing to get its photo taken, still it was awesome to see that everywhere I turned there was bee’s, we didn’t seem to have many this spring and I went out of my way to leave certain area’s for feeding the whole season long, I left of water spots to make sure in the heat they had their drinks etc.. and now in the fall, the farm, the yard and the gardens are reaping the rewards, those queens have been busy! and I hope that they have lots put away for winter!
The Cape Gooseberries, (Miss Molly) are huge, each plant is at least 3 feet plus tall and 3 feet plus wide, even though we were smart enough to place them in wire cages, they are still outgrown and flopping, but the fruits, hundreds and hundreds of them.. and the taste, heavenly, a bit of rich sweet citrus with hints of pinapple
Well, its that time of year, so much to do and so much to bring in.. here is a photo sample of some of the amazing farm goodness that is finding its way into the kitchen, pantry, cellar, freezers or canner this weekend and week.. going to do a full on farm feast meal tomorrow..
Fresh dug potato’s yum, yum, this weekend weather is good to start the curing on.. no rain in site for a bit..
Tomato’s are going to beat the band, and the pepper plants have stepped it up into high gear.
The fall rasberries are amazing, big, sweet and so so good!
The carrots, beans and so for that growing, and fall harvests are coming in..
But lots going into seed as well.. Lots and lots of raddish pods to fill jars of seeds for my winter sprouting.. perfect why pay for it, if you can grow and harvest it yourself!
