Dh came in the house with a lamb in his arms, at first glance, strong, healthy looking with loud, put me down, give me back to my mom, let me go back to the flock bleeting going on.
Hubby says, I saw him jump the wrong way, and I think he hurt his leg.. can you check it, so I feel the leg and yup, he had indeed hurt it..
So we measured out his leg, took shims and cut the full end off to fit, it needed to be just past the one joint and for the next three days above the below joint.. I need room for possible swelling but I also need it to be stable.
Now I need to make both pieces stay where I put them, I cut a nice long (enough to go around and down and back twice, soft cotton and around and around it went..
Now I needed to make it more tough and ideally pretty waterproof.. duck tape to the rescue again!
Now it will get checks for temp, swelling and a few other things, its been safely moved into a jug with just its mom, so it can’t be pushed around or bumped by other mothers or be encouraged to play by the other lambs, it need to rest and recover, if needed in three days, I will take it off and adjust and redo it.. I expect it will need the splint for a few weeks to four to six weeks to heal properly..
It was happy to see mom and nursed right away, its fast for a three legged poor wee lamb.

Good Doc!! Poor lambie.. c
Thanks, it will heal up just fine with proper care
poor thing
Its a good thing Dh saw it happen, so it didn’t have any time between the injury and the care, just need to watch it close as not only will it be healing but it will be growing and fast during the same time frame.
was it sprained or broken?
Only a xray would confirm that, I have movement on it, all joints are bending, it is not weight bearing on it at the moment by choice. Time will give me that answer, they will heal at different rates
Wow you’ve been having a rough patch with your sheepies. Hopefully your luck is going to change soon!
Trust me, I had that thought as well, last year, every single lamb born fine, not a single issue.. this year.. well.. knock on wood.. enough already!!!
Good catch DH!
Nice job, Doc FarmGal!!
Lucky lamb; )
Also, what would we do without duct tape?!
LOL
