The biggest Catapillar that I have personally ever seen!

2012-12-24 671 (600x450)This is DH’s big old man index finger and as you can see that catapillar is huge.. according to my reading, it will turn into a very very large black and brown moth over six inches wide with two big eye spots on its back.. Have you ever seen one of these in real life.. don’t you just love finding new things?

Wow that almost looks like a horned worm. Do you know what kind of catapillar that it is?

I would keep that one in a jar so you can see it when it turns into a moth!

  3. So very cool! And HUGE.

It’s not a Cecropia Moth, is it?
Hatched one out as a kid, but never saw the larval stage only the fuzzy (sort of looked like it was woven out of dog hair) cocoon…
She sure was huge though. Colour combo sounds right. “Eye” spots had a touch of rose-pink, if I remember correctly.

Good morning. Just popped over to thank you for your thoughtful and very helpful comment on my blog today. Weirdly it is a comfort to know that you have encountered a sow going mean as well. Everyone I talk to has just said that is weird. I wonder why she is doing that? They say. But when we look at her behaviour she has slowly been getting a little more aggressive with each step .. And as you know my property is TINY, we have to be able to all work in together. anyway, we will see. But I am taking your advice very seriously.. c

Oh and HUGE caterpillar indeed, are you sure it is going to be a moth, maybe a space ship!

    • In my case, in regards to pigs directly it was a boar, he had a excellent temperament the whole time he was raised, he was given his space, he just started getting a bit more and more aggressive, after he breed, he could not be trusted anymore.

But this happened once with a a female sheep, she turned on her own offspring and tried to kill it, and then turned on me, the dogs and would charge etc.. yes its hormones, no it can’t be allowed on a small farm, I am in with my animals all the time, I don’t have “walkways” around the pens, I am in the fields, in the pens etc, I need to have calm, steady animals.

It is the same with me, I go through paddocks and pens to get to the next ones. Though Charlotte is now in a pen on the outskirts of a field where it is very quiet, maybe she will settle down out there, I don’t know. My main worry is the winter of course, when it is sub zero temps, they need to share a warm pen then, and my barn is old, old, it would not take much to knock the walls down in a fight. And i am not set up for two pig pens. They would be too small .. not happening.. c
