Group two is no more.. and I found out that chickens are not the only thing that likes to eat mealworms.. so do hounds!
One of my mealworm box’s was safely(I thought) tucked into a second shelf, where it would provide extra warmth, a bit of darkness and still have them around for me to check on them etc..
Well, clearly the hounds had other idea’s, while the farmers are away, the hounds will play, this involved taking said pet box out, broke into two and not a worm or oatmeal flake to be found, nothing left but very quiet, laying quiet, Who US? looks on faces..
So that was a wash! and I need to make sure Group one is moved to a safer area as well, who knew!
PS, this was after they had been feed their supper at six and they took it out around eight/ninish..

Sorry but I have to laugh at this. I can just see that innocent look on their faces.
I guess I should have mentioned that risk to you. My cats have eaten meal worms, crickets and silkworms.
I have to worry about the purrpots too!
Ok, good to know.. while I am honestly not happy about them taking them out, I can see the funny in it, just give me a few days, it will be a good story in a week, right now, I am still in the .. YOU DID WHAT?
Still after I clean out the box and redo it and put it somewhere safe, I can move the adult bettles to it to lay their eggs and start a new colony that way, so it will all work out in the wash as they say..
Have you tried eating them yet, and if so, what is the best first time recipe you would recommend and at what size? I was thinking deep friend as the first try..
I haven’t tried them yet. Not enough of them. I have heard that they make a good meat pie.
Crickets that I have had were deep fried, the ants just raw, the snake was baked, the alligator was battered and deep fried.
You two are brave souls……..
