So yesterday I went to get a little extra professional help in regards to looking into a couple different things healthwise in regards to our continued journey towards hopefully someday having a little one.
What I learned was interesting and a few things new, that I had not even heard of before(which is kind of amazing considering the amount of “baby doctors” I have seen in the main stream) but one of the tests that I had done tests different things, and it turns out that I am in fact dehydrated, now is this leftover from flying, which always seems to make me feel that way, or is it partly to blame that I got used to drinking alberta water again and that I am struggling just a bit at getting used to the taste of my winter well water.. its filterd and the filter swears its still green and doing its job but my taste buds say different.
I know that I tend to drink alot more in summer then in winter, its a excuse of course but its also the truth, not really sure why, my body still needs the fluids. So I need to step up on getting that fluid in me, so today I am boiling up a big kettle of water for ten min, and then will chill it in the fridge and then put it though my filter jug and see if that appeals more.
I want to cut down on my sugars, which means that I don’t much like my herbal tea’s or even my one cuppa much without them, but I want to still make an drink at least one pot of my red tea for its amazing health benefits, but I will try and cut the amount of my raw local honey goes in it.. I just don’t like it with steva in it, it changes the aftertaste to much for me.
The other thing of note that was given to me was the amount of required calories used by my body per day at basic resting.. now last year I had spent a great deal of time on websites, and using formala’s in the books to figure out how many calories per day was required to just keep my body at resting weight, and I based my diet on reducing between 100 to 400 calories per day in a flux on that resting weight..worked ok, as long as I was really keeping up on my exercise..
Well the test done yesterday had a much different resting calories used per day, compared to what I figured out last year, in fact, the number given as my resting calorie rate was in fact pretty much the ideal of what I was AIMING for on a good day to have taken about 300-400 calories out of my diet, which explains why at that calories per day plus exercise , I lost weight, and why at that calories or above, I did not!
So a overhaul is required in that regards as well, and I will start making those changes as of today, more will be figured out as test go out and results come in.
So are you drinking your 8 glasses a day or are you like me, finding that with winter here, its harder to get that extra water drank in a day?

Hi FarmGal, Wow you sure packed a lot to ponder into that one!
From what I’ve read, we’re supposed to drink one litre/quart of water (H2O) per every fifty pounds of body mass (=twenty ml per pound) for an adequate supply of hydrogen molecules to enable peak function. Now I know that sounds like a lot of water, but if you figure how many neurons fire in your brain, cells are manufactured, fluids circulate… Every single one of these functions require hydrogen ions from water to do their job properly and without it things just can’t happen in the body. They say that by the time we feel thirsty, we’re already dehydrated and that man has lost the ability to differentiate between feelings of hunger and thirst: that a lot of the times you think you’re hungry, it’s actually thirst.
It’s also supposed to be a lot easier to lose weight if you’re drinking enough water to maintain proper bodily function.
Wouldn’t it be a real kicker if all we had to do was up our water intake, stop eating processed garbage and get back to “grazing” like we did when we were kids? No more toxins in, flush out those we’ve stored up and keep our blood sugar levels level (with a wide variety of greens, fruits, vegetables, nuts, whole grains and protein). Feed our bodies the way they evolved by eating like our ancestors did. Sounds so simple, but so darned hard to follow.
(And in answer to your question? No, once I fire up the wood stove it feels so dry in here that it seems like I’m always running for a drink of water):
Hi Deb, I will look into the amount per pd to drink that was very helpful, thanks for that! It would indeed be amazing if just drinking the right amount of water could help that much.. I think it would be very hard to get rid of all the toxins to honest, they are everywhere at this point, and well we are and have been hauling off close to a hundred years of garbage off the farm, I am the first to admit that there has to be some thing in the earth from all the years of my place being a farmstead.. I guess its possable that folks starting on virgin soil might be different to point in this, while I have not put any chemical’s on my pastures, and I do have a small buffer zone left for overspray the whole way around the farm, I am well aware that the fields around me are sprayed, I do the best I can but I know that there are still many things that I believe still build up in our bodies, thankfully I also think that with care and support, our bodies can heal themselves to a large part..
Oh hey, the body has ways of getting rid of the stuff that’s bad for it (they’re called your liver and kidneys; ) and there’s lots of nice gentle ways to clean out those two “muay importante” filtering organs when/if they get too overloaded. Just talk to your alternative health care provider for specific details on liver and kidney cleansing. Maybe even heavy metal detox too? The only time it’s too late is when you’re six feet under: )
But I DO know what you’re talking about with the old farmstead thing: there was tonnes of stuff at my parent’s place when they first bought it too…
Just remember, your body didn’t get messed up overnight, so don’t assume that it’ll get fixed overnight either, right? So, “No worries, we can fix!” ; )
Since my choice is stay hydrated or hit the floor… and yet it is still hard some days to drink enough fluids. I mix 2 cups o.j. with a tablespoon of honey, 1/4 teaspoon baking soda, and 1/8 teaspoon salt for a re-hydration drink. Beats the heck out of Gatorade! The original recipe from the Canadian Pharmacists Association called for 1 cup fruit juice and only 1/2 teaspoon of honey with the rest of the ingredients. I should probably double up the baking soda and salt hmmm?
Good luck with the task. I find if I fill the 1.5 litre bottle twice a day I can keep track of fluid intake.
Hi Elizabeth
Thanks so much for your thoughts on the issue, and for the recipe you use in regards to a re-hydration drink, I will keep working on it, so far, I have found that if I warm the water up, it goes down easier right now then cold water does, so that’s a start..
