As you can see in the photo, this is a very soon after birth photo, sorry about the bit graphic shot, as you can see momma has not finished passing and she did have a bit of tearing when she put out that BIG baby.. Great full bag up on the momma, lots of milk for sure and the baby nursed so hard it had a milk froth..
However I wanted to put this photo up for a different reason.. that color.. its a clear sign that this lamb was overdue, I thought that momma should have gone a day or two earlier and it looks like I was right. Birth fluid color can tell you a number of useful things if you watch for them. After its all cleaned up and fluffy and white, I will not be able to show off that late birth color..
Making a few more Knitted Sheep Collars these days, they work so well and they are so easy to make.. a few minutes and I have a custom thick, soft and wearing collar
I have a chocolate Hen, I have a blue hen coming from a friend and I am looking to add two more hens in the next month, my drakes are black, chocolate or blue, some bared some not..

Congratulations on the new babe! Hope mama makes a good recovery.
Yes, the momma is doing very well, eating, drinking, making milk and is bright eyed and interested as well as bonded to her baby, who is now all cleaned up.
I’ve never thought about the meaning of birth fluid color before. Fascinating. I’ll have to look into this more. One of our mamas just kidded and I’m pretty confident we’re now done for the season. I’m sure you agree that new life on the farm is great!
Its something I have noticed over the years, worth tracking for sure
