Using fresh herbs to help with bruising..

What does Comfry, Lambs ear, violet greens and plaintain have in common! They are all excellent for swelling, bruising and reducing heat and pain..

This has been the spring of the horsefly, I have never seen them this bad and poor girls teats got bit, she is being treated and we have a number of new  things going on to reduce the population without going with poison to do so.

But she was sore, I had in fact been proactive, having put healing salve on, and tied her leg but I was foolish and didn’t think she would react as badly as she did and so I got kicked..

I don’t mean  a little kick, but neither did she use full strength either, but she came up, around and nailed me above my left knee.. she took my breath and sound, never a good sign on a wound, none the less, I had to finish..

This is just after, never a good thing when you can see bruising with minutes after!

This is 24 hours after, over ten inches long, four plus inches wide and still growing

all wrapped up being treated, its amazing how they draw the swelling and pain out! Collect your fresh leaves, rip them up coarsely, bruising them, add some apple cidar with mother to bring it together, then I placed the mass inbetween soft cotton wound care pads and wrapped it to my leg with self sticking bandage wrap.

    Oh. My. God.
Would eating the herbs also help from the inside out?
    BIG Hugs, Deb

Sorry you got that nasty bruise, but it is so interesting to learn about effective folk remedies.

    • Thanks, the herbs really help, they draw out the heat, and the swelling, keeping the bruise itself nice and flat, it starts to swell up after I have been up and on my leg for any length of time, but the herbs can bring it right down.

I have got to get me some comfrey plants. I hope it heals soon and is not too painful to deal with this week.

    • Thanks for the well wishes, and I am making do and I do think that today is a bit of a turning point, normally it should be fully in by 72 hours so at this point, I should be steady and then on the mend..

If you don’t have comfrey, I would highly recommend that you track some down, it is a amazing plant to have in the garden!

Good night, Girl! My little horse got me like that last year just below the hip, I was thanking my lucky stars for all my extra padding, it formed a big hematoma under the skin that took months to resolve. Hope yours is better sooner than that!

I have had three bruises in this class in my lifetime. Once when a horse jumped over me, knocking me out and then stepped on my thigh just above the knee; once in an auto accident; and once when I tripped and fell flat on one knee. Each of them took a full year to completely fade away.

Yours is making me cringe because it looks far worse than mine! I’m so sorry this happened to you, and hope this finds you feeling better today.

    • Hi Lynda

I did get Dh to take a picture at the one week mark, I am flat out amazed at how fast its healing with the use of the fresh herbs, now the thing is that while its helping break up the color, reduce the swelling and really helps with the pain, it does not seem to yet anyway help with the hard lumpy middle of the area but I am gently working it a couple time a day and will continue to do so..

Overall though it is healing really well, I am also modify my diet to help with the healing. will keep you updated..

And, for some reason, they don’t have Lamb’s Ear listed… How odd!
