Winter is coming! No really, spring is coming but Jack Frost, Old Man Winter have got together and are messing with most of the area around me, and let me tell ya, they are tying one on!!
Cold Winds blowing, rain, sleet, freezing rain and snow, its all on the table and depending on where you are makes a difference in how it hits you but its that dreaded freezing rain that seems to do the most damage when combine with the winds, as it brings down the tree’s which is just so! dangerous!
Currently at the moment, we have snow, winds and now are starting into a light mix of sleet, freezing rain with itty bits of hail..
So for those still can, fill up some extra buckets of water, make sure your laundry is caught up, bring in the some extra wood for the stoves or if you don’t have that, crack out the sleepbags, check your supplies, if you need to, cook up some extra meat, hard boil some eggs, bake some fresh breads (make a double batch of pancakes) make a double batch of baking powder bisquits, unless you have the right wood stove and you know that you can bake that bread in a couple hours.
For those that are already out of power and have tree’s coming down.. know you are in my prayers! Keep safe!

It’s dying down here finally- those winds are something else and they howled all night long!
Wish I could say the same here, its started to drizzle freezing rain for the past half hour, and its slick out there..the windows on the side that the wind is coming in on are covered in ice.. we have already done all the day’s chores and refilled all the extra’s to hunker down and see what comes..
Glad that your winds are calming down, how high did they get?
Well if it makes you feel any better we are under a snow warning again in the Edmonton area. The whole weekend is supposed to be snow and more snow, starting tonight. Take care everyone.
Well we are a sheet of ice here and may well loose a number of trees in our very precious wind break. Our power has been off and on all day and the dog is refusing to go out after he slid thru the yard, down the hill and hit the barn this morning.
Sorry to hear it Lili, hope you don’t lose to many of those trees, and I am going to own up to a laugh/snort about the sliding and hitting the barn, poor pup, I know its not really funny but must have been a sight indeed!
Finally got the power back on about 6:15pm… mad dash to get dinner cooked, but it has been steady since. The ice has been melting and while a couple of the trees may never stand tall again and we may still loose one… think were going to be okay. Have to underplant the windbreak this year. It was a good opportunity to go through the “power out” boxes. Have a few items to replace (where do those boxes of matches wander off too…) but we had lots of propane, lamp oil, wicks, candles… and the camp stove was accessible, so we would all have been fine. And the pup was a giggle.
Power still on here……..so far
Good news, do you still have the storm going on there, we have a bit of wind yet but that’s it for now..few branches down of course and a good 2 inchs of snow mixed with ice..
It’s still freezing rain here
There’s only one other thing I’d suggest…
If you haven’t already done so, go have a shower. Run! Even if you’re sick and would rather go back to sleep, trust me, do it NOW! (Before the lights start to flicker):
We are to get rain/snow here in southern Alberta this week also….Here’s hoping there is not much damage. Take care.
