Hello to my readers, this post is very much not about homesteading, farming, cooking, critters or any of the musings I am known to do.. (I am currently working on a number of different posts so lots to come) Nope this one is about being a aunty..
So I got the coolest little package in the mail, its a laminated flat Hailey, who is traveling around Canada to different places, you get to do a travel journey for her and take her picture at different places she visits..
Now I am cool with the farm stuff, I got this, ride a horse, milk a sheep, collect a still warm egg from the hen, tap a maple tree, make maple taffy in the snow. I am going to a wool spinning event, so she can come for that one.
So here is my question for you folks.. Ottawa is the capital city of Canada, so what do you think would be of interest for the grade 3 kids from northern alberta?
I figure the worlds largest largest outdoor skating rink is one..
The capital hill should be another?
And then what? I am so not a city person, so I am open to idea’s of what would be a interesting place to take my little paper flat doll to get her picture taken at??

What a great idea! What about the Children’s Museum (or is that in Hull?), the Cenotaph, the War Museum, fur traders on the Ottawa River headed north to the Haut Pays, tulips in the spring and the Dutch Royal Family, Canadian Aviation and Science Museum or the river aquarium at the Nature Museum…
If Hailey hasn’t made it to Newfoundland, we’d be happy to host her.
Thanks, I will do the hill for sure, the others are great idea’s, she came with a list of address on who to send her to next, so its not free style that way or I would for sure take you up on it 🙂
Having a hard time posting on the blog so replying. I’d thing a bunch of farm things would be really great.
Karen
Sorry to hear that the blog is not working proper, hope they work out the kink so, and thanks for reply, farm stuff sounds good, I can think of a some fun things for sure
It’s the wrong time of year to see the Mounties on horseback on Parliament Hill, but you can go to the RCMP Stables (http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/mr-ce/centre-eng.htm) to see the Musical Ride horses: it’s right at the top of St Laurent Blvd (a MUST see: )
The Aviation & Space Museum (http://casmuseum.techno-science.ca) is just a little south off of St Laurent near the former CFB Rockcliffe or via the Aviation Parkway (for the Avro Arrow)
The Museum of Science and Technology (http://www.sciencetech.technomuses.ca) is also on St Laurent, just 2.6 km south of 417 at Lancaster.
The Museum of Man/Children’s Museum/Museum of Civilisation (sorry, it’s had so many incarnations that I’ve lost track…) but it’s an incredible place, and if you haven’t been yet, be sure to go SOON; as I understand that a major change of direction is imminent]: right across the river from the Parliament Buildings in Hull. Oops, too late; it’s now called the Canadian Museum of History. (http://www.historymuseum.ca)
The War Museum (http://www.warmuseum.ca/home), Royal Canadian Mint, the National Gallery of Canada (http://www.gallery.ca/en/) the Hotel Laurier (formerly one link in the world famous CN Hotel chain (which included the Chateaus Lake Louise in Alberta, Frontenac in Quebec City), the Supreme Court of Canada, are all downtown.
Canadian Museum of Nature, 240 McCleod St is a really cool old Castle open since 1912! (www.nature.ca › home) Think 300 dinosaur fossils – 3/4 of which are the real thing, not just plaster castings!
The Governor General’s Residence, Prime Minister’s Residence… are all on Sussex Drive.
The Experimental Farm…

This was fun FG; (THANKS!: )
Oops, don’t know why this one didn’t transfer live… The Museum of Nature: http://nature.ca/en/home
Also Château Laurier, Château Lake Louise and Château Frontenac were all CP Hotels (NOT CN, sorry):
all Deb’s ideas lol
