I am sorry to have this rant, I might not even post this.. I most likely will and I am sure I will lose a reader or two.. but I have to write this.. If you live in an apartment or a tiny condo in the city, you can be many things.. You can be […]
Ok, its just going on record that we are going to be “in just in time mode” on most things this year. Let me give a example.. we have pulled at least a hundred or two wild parsnips but then we needed to focus on this or that.. and suddenly this week, we are like.. […]
Wow, that’s some flock!
So whadda ya figure, somewhere around 30 – 40 birds? (You ever notice how they seem to disappear when hunting season starts?; )
We counted 37 in the photo but there was at least five more that were not in the photo and already up on the road part.. they are not easy pickings that’s for sure..
LOL! Not a bad guess for counting on my phone screen, eh?
I’ve never eaten wild turkey… How about you?
Nope, never had any of the local wild turkey’s myself, but have had wild turkey at a dinner about an hour away, up in the perth area and I expect that the taste is impacted by the feeding grounds, just like the deer and moose are.. I had to laugh a bit the year I have the big bronze turkeys here on the farm, had a few of the local’s stop by real nice and inform me that it was illigal to keep wild turkeys as pets, and so I got to explain that they were old heritage Bronze turkey’s not wild ones. but I locked them up really good over hunting season.. I can’t say that I much cared for the blacks, bronze or greys meat, I like the royal palms and I pretty much like my slowly grown, wild forage white breasted turkeys, I have never to date, had a health issues, and they act like normal birds in all ways, I think because I let them do so.. Personally I thihk the slow raised, pasture raised whites have the best taste other then the royal palms
I’m envious of all of your turkey tasting expertise; never had anything but regular store bought. For as many times as Dad went out, and as successful as he was with everything else (in spite of how plentiful they are out of season; ) don’t believe he ever bagged a turkey.
