Health Update

Wow, a week has flown by, and so much has happened in that time frame..

So first thing, I am quitting the gym.. I need to know when to cut my losses, and this is one of them, I am not going to get off the farm and to town X amount of times a day, the farm has so many things that need to be done, and the cost of the gym will buy a full round bale for my new horse plus her feed for the month..

The horse is the new gym LOL, and what a great workout she has been this week already..

So on the eating front, we had one moment of weakness and I paid for it for days later, Dh was on holiday’s for a long weekend and we had a blast!, we had a list of projects that needed to be done on the farm and we had a list of things to do off the farm, so it was a sleep in, have a fancy weekend breakfast, and then hurry! get that thing on the chore list done, and boot off the farm.. not everything we did cost money or at least not to much of it, like wild apple picking or exploring our locally area in regards to wild forage things, or picture taking, but we also got out to the show, and to a local cheese festival and to a sunday get together.

So in the middle of all our travel a bag of crunchy junk was got, and while it didn’t have wheat in it, it was made of corn, none the less.. it tasted great going down but wow, did I not! feel good about it later, its so off the list!

Otherwise, we are right on track with our meals, I find we are eating less in portion sizes while still getting the correct calories, its still hard sometimes because you just want to have something quick to make and unless you prepare things ahead of time, that is hard to come by, the quick thing for me is my orginal V8 juice heated up and used as a tomato soup.

So would it be any real suprise that when I did my weight in this morning, that yes, I am once again down in weight! I love seeing that scale going down! I have had no issues with my blood pressure this week either, and my energy level is good but boy when I sleep, do I ever sleep, going to bed early these days and sleeping a bit late in the mornings, well for me, I normally get up and going between five and six and a couple days have been more like seven or eight..

O and as I was in the city, I hit the bulk store and picked up a few flours I am allowed to have, don’t care for the arrowroot but it will work for making gravy but the coconut flour does work well in everything I have tried it with and so much cheaper then the ground almond flour, also was able to get some coconut oil on sale.

Went for my second massage which I have started working with my bonecracking treatments, and while the first one made me a little scared to go back, turns out I have alot of scare tissue in my hips area, and wow did it hurt the first time and then we worked on shoulders and neck area, well it hurt for days afterwards, was not sure I wanted to go back again or not but did and was so glad I did, there was a clear improvement in reduction of pain in the area’s being worked and she was able to go deeper and I had little to no pain the next day, but increased flexability with my stretches! Given the cost, I don’t think it will ever go more then once a month but if it continues to be of value, I will stay with it.

This week is simple, eat well, get my eight hours of sleep, do my daily stretches, keep up on the house and farm, and go play with Brandy!

I, for one, am so happy to hear that you are doing some almond and coconut flours. As time goes on, you will be wanting less and less of those. We started with almond flour donuts, muffins, pancakes (every 2 or 3 days; now only 1x week for a treat), etc. We are experimenting still to find the best brownie recipe, as that is a 1x every couple week treat. The cocoa powder is very good for you but my digestive system is not extremely fond of it too often.

My weight continues to melt off, too. In a year or so I’ll let you know where I end up and will then reveal where I started (it’s too embarrassing now; plenty of time to brag later). My only regret is that I got into the “fix” I am in and wish I had known about the evil wheat and grains ages and ages ago … and they are EVIL.

I watched a really good lecture on YouTube by Dr. “Wheat Belly” in which he explains that it has been since around 1960 that the real issues began (he has given this lecture several times with various embellishments). That turns out to have been just prior to my teens, and a few years prior to my first pregnancy, and I can see how my health went straight downhill since then.

My husband and I have not only gone Paleo/Primal but are working to incorporate Dr. Terry L. Wahls’ “Minding My Mitochondria” protocol. Since 6/10 it has been no wheat; since 6/17 it has been totally gluten-free eating with no grains (including corn and cornstarch), legumes (meaning no peanuts, beans or soy in any form), white potatoes; no white sugar (except in minute amounts in some commercial products like salad dressing), and no vegetable oils (using only olive oil, coconut oil, bacon grease, butter). We added Dr. Walsh’s protocol about 2 weeks ago. It calls daily for 3 cups of cooked greens (foremost kale), 3 cups of sulfur-rich vegetables (cauliflower, broccoli, cabbages, Brussels sprouts, onions, rutabaga, mushrooms, asparagus, garlic), and 3 cups of colorful fruits and vegetables (antioxidant-rich), plus fish (1x to 3x week), meat, organ meats (1x week), and seaweed (1x) week.

As the appetite drops off, getting all those veggies in has not been easy and we have a long way to go to get there. But I am working hard to include my liver, bacon and onions (1x week), shrimp or other fish (1x week), and seaweed (1x week; find SeaSnax at healthfood store or online).

I’m hoping that my “journey” helps someone else and I will pop in occasionally to share because here is where I discovered “Wheat Belly”, which launched this permanent life-saving lifestyle change.

Hi Brenda, Would it be possible to share a link for the Wheat Belly lecture you just mentioned? Thanks, Deb

Just go to YouTube and type in “wheat belly”, “william davis” and it will bring up all the videos of his lecture. It is worthwhile to listen to more than one version as each time he adds something not included in other versions.

Hey FarmGal, Glad to hear so many positives today!
You were mentioning being sore after your massage therapy… Just wondering if you’re doing the mega water flush & 20 minute Epsom salts bath before you go to bed that night? It really helps to get rid of all the toxins she’s releasing from your muscle tissue (and very relaxing too; )
