Started the year with several dozen strawberries, then transferred out 48 new babies into new rows from my own patch..
Got 136 new everbearing strawberries on Friday..
Got my flat of 120 baby alpine strawberries
Got a pot of 12 pink flowered strawberries from the free plant event..
still need to plant the alpine and bed the rows plants down..
Are you doing the math on this yet? yup, that 356 strawberry plants in the gardens! for around 200 pds of fruit on first year and upwards of 500 hundred pds of possible strawberry harvest..

Hey FG, not sure what happened, but I’ve just re-upped – nothing since last Garden Friday Report):
Someone told me recently that strawberries don’t last for more than a couple of years anymore. Is this true, or only for the new varieties, perhaps?
P.S. What on earth are you going to do with 500lb of strawberries? More yummy soap? Pretty sure they’re good for the skin; )
Well, that’s the max out, I expect more like 300 hundred pus pds, so first there is all the fresh we and (farmer T’ and family) can eat fresh, and then the rest will be a mix of dried for snacks for DH work lunchs, canned and or purred and then dried into fruit leather roll ups. Its not hard to use up that many if you are canning or freezing or drying them for a full years worth of strawberries.
Add yes, I did think I would make at least one strawberry soap 🙂
Its true that strawberries tend to get old by their fourth year but its not issue, they make many, many new babies and so you just create a cycle with them and the next gen will create more strawberries and so on..
