* please note that I am not saying any of this is legal and kiddo’s if you are going to hunt and or use/own rifles, DO IT RIGHT! never be this dork- don’t try this at home.
Ok, so yesterday was one of those wonderful busy days on the farm that allowed me to slip off for a afternoon horseback ride and a work visit..
Car drives slowly by on our road.. hmmm, lost? shortly there after car, slowly drives by the other way, pull’s into what the local’s call the running road and stops, needless to say the local farmer that I was visiting headed down the road to see if they were lost.
We think the kindly think first, bet they are lost, it happens a lot in our neck of the woods, but the visit takes longer then I think it should for a “looking for z or just want to watch the geese” so I take a little walk of my own and I can hear the tone in the french, but can’t understand a word.. hmmmm
Back comes the farmer, and wow, family in the car, dad has bullet belt straped to him, with a wife and child in the car along with rifle (uncased) YIKES!
Asked if looking to hunt, guys says just looking, farmer says, got permission to hunt on any of the local land (which we know the answer to considering farmer 1 owns most of the land and Farmer R owns the rest locally) so the guy, says yes, farmer XY gave me permission, which again just shows how dumb some folks really can be, given that that gentleman owns his land in a different village area, he is in the same township but not even within 20 plus driving to where we live. – So EEEH.. wrong..
So then the guy gets rude.. and starts asking Farmer, well what land do you own then, and do you own the road, and he was not scooping out hunting, he suddenly had a flat tire (which was not flat).
Finally guy says, well just thinking I might get a few goose, ya know.. first in our county, there are rules on what you can use in regards to hunting this or that, second, you need written permission from the land owner, and third, its deer hunting season right now, not duck/goose
I have huge respect for the local’s that live in my area that hunt, I have found them to be excellent, careful and respectful of the land and those of us who live here but last night was a eye opener on just how easy it is to have someone with no respect drive up and show up in your neck of the woods.
I truly hope that you don’t have to deal with weekend warrior type hunters, they be wild and weird and give the good guys a bad rap!

Ya I here you Farmgal. Some days I’m afraid to walk the dog with all the gunshot sounds close by!
I think I would have called the police because of the insecure gun(s) in the car……
A real eye opener for sure!
Not much point in that, as with most of the cars/trucks, the whole thing is covered in enough mud that you can’t even begin to read the licence plate and by the time anyone would have come, they would have been long gone, letting them know that we keep a close eye on the area and watch out for each other is mostly likely all that was needed to get them to move on.
Respect for others’ rights, the law and life itself, is something which seems to be in shorter supply these days.
My father always said that if you went out and took a life then you better be prepared to eat what you’d killed, because to waste food was a mortal sin – especially when others didn’t have enough to eat.
Just how did this clown think he was going to transport a deer carcass when and if he did shoot one – never mind getting it back to the vehicle if it wasn’t a clean kill shot? (This type isn’t about to bother pursuing a wounded animal for miles put it out of its misery.
Glad you’re keeping an eye out – but this shouldn’t be happening.
No it shouldn’t happen and I have to admit that in the number of years we have been here, that’s the first time I have seen anything like it and its not someone local, I was not sure if I should put this post up or not but I have posted about hunting and the postives, I only felt it was fair to post on the other side as it happened.
I agree, wasting food is a very bad thing indeed…
As for your questions, I have no idea what he thought he was doing, he might have noticed the peaple, horses, kids and dogs all working outside on their farms and perhaps! thought twice about trying to dusk hunt with his own family, if they had just wanted a drive to look, more power to them, (still need permission to hunt on the land) but we will all be watching out for him..
The hunters that really bother me are the ones who have no respect for other peoples property. They think because it is in the country that they have a right to hunt on the property and from the roads as well. My family has acreage on a large creek and we have had people try to run us off our own land. Telling us that they have permission from the owners but they couldn’t come up with the name of the owner (us) or of any of the neighbors either.Just because you can purchase a hunting license doesn’t mean that you can hunt anywhere you want in the state.
I have less of this foolishness where I currently live, but when I lived in PA it was rampant! Living ona private dead end , dirt road I guess the folks from the ‘citiy’ just could not believe anyone owned such property…they always said the same thing or some variation…sheesh.
